Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Across NSW & Queensland

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provides purpose-built housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Alive4Life supports participants to access safe, suitable SDA options that align with their needs, preferences, and NDIS plan.

We work alongside participants, families, support coordinators, and housing partners to help identify the right accommodation with a strong focus on long-term stability, safety, and quality of life.

What is Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)?

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is an NDIS-funded support that refers to the physical housing a participant lives in, not the daily support provided inside the home.

SDA funding contributes to the cost of specialist housing that has been designed or modified to meet the needs of people with significant functional impairment or very high support requirements. SDA homes are built to specific design standards and categories to improve accessibility, safety, and independence.

Participants living in SDA may also receive Supported Independent Living (SIL) or other supports, depending on their NDIS plan.

How Alive4Life Supports You with SDA

At Alive4Life, we take a participant-centred approach to SDA, recognising that the right home plays a vital role in wellbeing, independence, and long-term outcomes.

We support participants by:

  • Assisting with understanding SDA eligibility and funding
  • Working with you during the assessment and planning process
  • Helping identify SDA options that align with individual needs and preferences
  • Supporting transitions into new accommodation
  • Collaborating with housing providers, families, and support teams
  • Ensuring SDA and SIL supports work together where applicable

Our focus is on helping participants find accommodation that supports safety, independence, and comfort not just availability

Accessing SDA Accommodation

Alive4Life works with participants across NSW and Queensland to explore available SDA options. Accommodation vacancies are managed separately to ensure listings remain accurate and up to date.

If you’re unsure whether SDA is included in your plan, or would like support exploring your options, our team is happy to help.

NDIS Funding for SDA

SDA funding is provided separately to other NDIS supports and is paid directly to the SDA housing provider. It does not replace supports such as SIL, personal care, or community access.

Our team can help you understand how SDA funding works and how it fits alongside your other supports.
