Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Across NSW & Queensland

Your home should feel safe, welcoming, and supportive of the life you want to live.

Alive4Life Disability Services offers Supported Independent Living (SIL) designed to support choice, independence, and meaningful community connection. Our homes are fully staffed 24/7 and tailored to different support needs, living preferences, and lifestyles.

We work closely with participants, families, and support coordinators to ensure the right fit, not just a vacancy.

What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disability live as independently as possible while receiving the assistance they need in a shared home environment.

SIL funding covers support for everyday tasks such as personal care, cooking, household activities, medication support, and the development of daily living skills. Support is provided based on individual needs and may include 24/7 assistance, shared or higher support ratios, and tailored routines to support independence, safety, and wellbeing.

SIL focuses on how support is delivered, not the physical home itself, and is designed for participants who require regular assistance to live safely and confidently with others.

How Alive4Life Supports You with SIL

At Alive4Life, our Supported Independent Living services are built around dignity, safety, and everyday independence. We take a person-centred approach, recognising each participant’s goals, abilities, preferences, and support needs.

Participants are supported by experienced, trained staff in warm, inclusive household environments, with access to behavioural, clinical, and therapeutic expertise when required. Support models, staffing ratios, and daily routines are tailored to each household to ensure the right balance of independence and assistance.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) FAQs

  • Do I need SIL funding in my NDIS plan to apply for a vacancy?

SIL funding is required to receive Supported Independent Living support. If you’re unsure whether SIL is included in your plan or are exploring your options, our team can help guide you through the next steps.

  • Is Supported Independent Living the same as accommodation?

No. SIL relates to the support provided in the home, not the physical property itself. Some participants may live in private rentals, SDA housing, or other shared homes while receiving SIL support.

  • Can Alive4Life help with the SIL assessment and matching process?

Yes. We work closely with participants, families, and support coordinators to assess suitability and support the matching process to ensure the best possible fit.

  • What support ratios are available?

Support ratios vary depending on individual needs and household arrangements. Ratios may include 1:2, 1:3, or higher where required.

  • Can SIL be combined with other supports?

Yes. SIL often works alongside other NDIS supports, such as community access, therapy supports, or SDA, depending on a participant’s plan.
